My Voice

‘My Voice’ means having your say.

It’s really important that we know what you think – whether you’re happy or your not so happy about things. We can’t promise you complete answers to every question you have, but it’s important to us that when you have something to say, we listen.

There are lots of ways to have your say. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Make sure you tell your social worker, family worker or someone else you trust, like a teacher, if there’s anything you’re feeling unhappy or unsure about.
  • Your Independent Reviewing Officer is there to make sure everything that should be done for you is happening. Tell him/her if you have any concerns or worries.
  • If you’re over 15,  you’ll have a personal advisor. Tell him/her about your concerns or feel free to ask them any questions you want answered.
  • Your carer (usually a foster carer) will listen to you. They will try to answer all the questions you have, but if there’s anything they can’t answer, they’ll tell your social worker, so that he/she can talk to you.
  • NYAS offers an advocacy service for you. This means an adult will support you to make sure that your rights are respected and your views and wishes are heard at all times. Find out more about advocacy here and also see the leaflets in the Advocacy box on the left hand side of this page.
  • Get involved! You can join any of the three Reach Out! groups (each one depends on your age) and help shape the future of care. It’s a great way to make friends, put forward your views and ideas on how to improve things and have lots of fun along the way.
  • Let us know if you’re really happy, or if you want to complain about something. There’s a leaflet (download on the left hand side of this page) which helps you with what to do. Or you can email us complaints@scstrust.co.uk or speak to the (very friendly) Complaints Manager on 01753 875825.
  • We’ve also got a helpline which you can call at any time. The number is 07826 510362.
